A Perfect Day in San Diego: Coronado, Loews Resort & Old Town Adventures
San Diego is one of those cities that effortlessly blends coastal calm, rich history, and luxurious escapes. Whether you're planning a weekend getaway or curating a dream California itinerary, this day trip covers three must-visit spots: Coronado Island, Loews Coronado Bay Resort, and Old Town San Diego. Here’s how I spent one unforgettable day soaking up all the vibes San Diego has to offer.
Morning on Coronado Island
Start your day with a drive or ferry ride over to Coronado Island. The second you arrive, everything slows down. The beach is wide, pristine, and peaceful, perfect for a morning walk with coffee in hand.
Don’t miss the iconic Hotel del Coronado, a historic red-roofed resort that has hosted celebrities and royalty. Even if you’re not staying there, walking through its breezy courtyards and watching the waves roll in is well worth it. I met with some friends for dinner one night at Serea Coastal Cuisine which had amazing mediterranean food.
Pro tip -Rent a bike or a surrey to explore the palm-lined streets and admire the classic California beach homes. I walked from where the hotel shuttle dropped me off but a bike ride would totally be worth it.

Midday Escape at Loews Coronado Bay Resort
I was lucky enough to accompany a friend on a work conference as her plus one. Loews Coronado Bay Resort**, tucked away on a private 15-acre peninsula just a short drive from the island center. It’s the kind of place where you instantly relax - surrounded by the bay on one side and the Pacific on the other. We ended up in a bungalow right on the water which was amazingly quiet and peaceful.
Whether you’re booking a spa treatment, lounging by the pool, or grabbing a fresh, coastal lunch at the on-site restaurant, Loews offers a quiet luxury that’s perfect for recharging mid-day.
I took in the tranquil marina views, snapped a few dreamy photos (of course 📸), and just let the sunshine soak in. If you’re feeling like more of a walk, you can get to a small park and coffee shop about half and hour away.

Afternoon Stroll Through Old Town San Diego
No visit to San Diego is complete without stopping in Old Town—a colorful, historic neighborhood where the city was first founded. This area bursts with character: think handmade tortillas, vibrant papel picado banners, mariachis, and lively patios filled with margaritas and laughter.
Explore the shops filled with local art, jewelry, and home decor, or stop by Café Coyote for classic tacos and people-watching from the balcony. We were able to catch some live music in one of the main center.
Don’t skip: The Old Town Market and a walk through the historic adobe buildings.

🌅 Wrapping Up
From the sand between your toes at Coronado to the refined calm at Loews, and the festive energy of Old Town—San Diego gave me exactly the kind of perfect day I was hoping for.
It’s a city that wears many hats, and this itinerary is a little glimpse into just how much there is to love.
